The Imperious Urge
Do you remember Adam Sky’s last single on Exploited? – ‘We Are All Prostitutes’ featuring Mark Stewart? Since its release in summer 2007 it was the Crookers remix version which really blew up. It was one of the Italian duo’s early remixes and to this date loads of people think it’s been their best so far... “We saw so many DJs playing it first hand: 2Many Djs/Soulwax, Peaches, Tomboy, Sinden and Diplo... Wherever we went – Pukkelpop, I love Techno 2008, Radio Soulwax X-Mas, Melt! - we heard at least one DJ pumping it. ‘We Are All Prostitutes’ still gets the global crowds going nuts whenever it’s played.” Exploited Records Now what was originally a remake of the ‘The Pop Group’ has become a real anthem on the international dancefloors. Adam Sky’s new single is different. ‘The Imperious Urge’ is less rebellious, less in your face. It’s more intimate. It’s a very personal record to Adam. On this record Adam collaborated with South African-born singer Danny Williams whose ethereal version of the film theme ‘Moon River’ topped the UK charts at Christmas in 1961 and has remained an easy listening favourite ever since. Danny Williams is Adam’s ex father-in-law (he was the father of Adam’s daughter’s mother). In the past they’ve collaborated at a few of Adam’s live London shows. Danny Williams – whose ‘Moon River’ song outlasted his own popularity – died of cancer aged 63 in December 2005. “There is not a living singer on this planet who I could replace the wonderful Danny Williams with…I made this version 4 years ago and as often with me I have played it in my sets for a few years before a good label has got it…” Adam Sky Actually ‘The Imperious Urge’ is a song about the lust that we are all ruled by. It’s a song about having sex. Unfortunately, Danny Williams had already passed away when Adam realized that not many people could understand what Danny was talking about and it was too late to rewrite the lyrics. "Now is the time to recall your illusion and ride your dream thru to it's conclusion liberate your soul and feel at ease and have no shame cos we're only human beings.. with the imperious urge.. so come with me it's a good vibration and follow me into your temptation for us tonite all of the stars will shine and satellites are working overtime... it's the imperious urge ..." Adam Sky’s original SKINPOP version is a beautiful spaced out cosmic trip built around a hypnotic synth line, Billie Jean like drums, bongo action, a mad bass and Danny William’s magic voice full of metaphors. JBAG (aka Jerry Bouthier of Kitsune-Fame and Andrea Gorgerino) delivered a banging electro-house-remix that is ready to set the big floors on fire. Get Physical’s newest signing Tomski&Fredboy aka Tomboy (Whomadewho) and Fredski from the Danish label Tartelet Records come with a percussive stripped down cool tickle groove that has that certain mix of techno and jazz for all the people who like it a bit deeper. Last but not least, Man Recording’s own Kubo aka Stereotyp from Vienna – known for his passion for Brazilian music and Afro Beats as well as European club and bass culture – comes with a futuristic, voodooesque Kuduro-remix.
