A succinct and well-programmed retrospective of Tokyo's main jazz-soul chanteuse, this 13-track CD not only includes her album and single work, but remixes and notable cameos from early in her career on tracks by United Future Organization, Mondo Grosso, and Peace Force -- songs that first turned most people's ears to Michiru's smooth vocals. "Tree, Air, & Rain on the Earth (Night Fire Carnival)" is a funky samba shakeout created by Mondo Grosso, while "My Foolish Dream" features a giddy, jazzy waltz rhythm with nods to "Moondance," among others. There's also a brilliant trip-hop cover of Neil Young's "Don't Let It Bring You Down" featuring Peace Force. The many facets of Michiru are here: the acid jazz queen, the songwriter, and the mellow diva. A great place to start for the curious.
