Day in the Life...
by Ron WynnDanny Wright's 11th recording is neither a flamboyant improvisational exercise nor a rigidly structured presentation. Instead, it combines nice piano melodies, elaborate but not pompous or bombastic arrangements and a modicum of synthesizer/electronic backing and orchestration. The results are music that doesn't overwhelm, but holds interest over the 11 selections. The songs are short enough and arranged in such a manner that the suite feeling Wright seeks is maintained. The most interesting numbers are "Peace" and "Gabriel's Oboe," longer compositions with more musical variety and thematic contrast than the disc's shorter tunes.
