Bad Hair Day

Bad Hair Day

by Stephen Thomas ErlewineAs Weird Al Yankovic gets older, his albums get more reactionary and less focused, and Bad Hair Day is no exception. Although the first single, a parody of Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise" entitled "Amish Paradise," was a hit, that was due to timing, not its quality; the song is one of the more hackneyed and condescending tracks he has recorded. Furthermore, the music on Bad Hair Day not only lacks the humor, it lacks the impish energy that made Weird Al's first albums such fun. If you find "Amish Paradise" funny, chances are you'll be more satisfied by a single than the album. Or you should just wait for the next, inevitable Weird Al greatest-hits collection.
