A Touch of Platinum
Released a few months after the limited-edition four-disc box Elvis Presley Platinum: A Life in Music went out of print, the double-disc, 44-track A Touch of Platinum contains the majority of the essential rarities that only appeared on that box. Among the featured highlights are the 1954 demo of "I'll Never Stand In Your Way" that Elvis cut as a teenager, several live recordings, alternate takes of hit singles, performances from television shows, and private recordings from his personal vaults. Instead of selecting nothing but rarities for this set, RCA still pads it out with hits that have been re-released countless times ? "Mystery Train," "All Shook Up," "Jailhouse Rock," "It's Now or Never," "Can't Help Falling in Love" ? which decreases the value of the package somewhat; it would have been better for collectors and casual fans alike if this was nothing but rarities. Nevertheless, it has enough little gems to make it worthwhile for any serious fan who didn't invest in the box set.
