The American Chamber Winds was founded in Skien, Norway in July 1983, by David Waybright and Stanley D. Hettinger. The concept for the ensemble grew out of impromptu concerts given around the Skien area, and in conjunction with the fi rst World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE).
