In a restaurant, prior to attending a Return To Forever concert, Jody Ellis introduced Gerry Fielding to Miki Petkovski. They had both played on recordings for Jody but had never met. An animated conversation led to a plan to play some fusion music together. Soon like-minded players Budi Winarto and Peter Crolly joined the fold and started to rehearse music written by Jody, Miki and Pete. When award-winning engineer/musician Ron Searles offered to record the band, Stratus slipped into high gear.
This recording was made in 2 days in studio 211 at CBC Toronto. You couldn't ask for a better facility. With Ron at the helm, some great performances were captured. In the weeks that followed, with a few overdubs and hours of mixing at Jody's studio, Stratus Sphere was born.
