Quartet formed casually to play a Saturday night at the Deer Head Inn. I called Joe. Joe suggested Jim. We all agreed on Tony. The four of us never played as a group, but the recording seemed like a good idea. At sound check, we had a short rehearsal to learn Tanya, by Donald Byrd, and talk over some tunes. When the band hit the stand, there was a palpable feeling of excitement from note one. It spread to the audience, as you can hear throughout the performance.
You, the listener, can sit in the best seat of the Deer Head Inn and join us on this recording of a great night.
