New Tango Concepts
Gerard van Duinen (bandoneon) and Mirek Walton (guitar) join together in a new tango duo: energetic, intriguing and innovative. They challenge each other to discover unknown territories of music and improvise as if their lives depend on it. By writing new compositions they explore the limits of the tango idiom, without ever forsaking their love for the rich history of the characteristic tango style.
Walton/van Duinen seeks explores new forms of dancemusic - tango, that is beautiful to listen to and comfortably challenging to dance to.
Walton/van Duinen has a simple starting point: using the roots of Argentine tango to create an original and refreshing style. Mirek and Gerard are fascinated by the pure energy of the danceable tango's from the 1940's. At the same time they want to both seduce and challenge dancers and listeners of today with new compositions and surprising versions of classical tango's.
An original style is born when musicians experiment with new techniques and perspectives, unexpected harmonies and structures, but also innovatively applied electronics that enlarge and deepen the natural sounds. The result is surprising and in some ways unlike tango music and yet recognizable due to the passion and organic rhythms.
Watlon/van Duinen does not focus on the tango cliché's from the 60's and 70's. They prefer playing original repertoire and new interpretations of the most beautiful traditional tango's. The unique character of each tango - rich melodies, swinging rhythms, razor sharp articulation - is always the main course. That makes, each concert of Walton/van Duinen an exciting, challenging and thrilling adventure both for themselves and the (dancing) audience.
