Notes:
In the mid-1990's, Daniel Bremmer was music director at KUCI in Irvine. He became one of my best allies in Southern California after he convinced me to start playing sleep concerts again, but on radio instead of in person. He scheduled an entire night for the event on KUCI and promoted it actively. The resulting good experience convinced me to play about 30 radio sleep concerts around North America the following years.
Daniel began to promote some live concerts in the Irvine area with local ambient electronic artists, and invited me down for a few of them. The Shamballa series of concerts took place in an Indian restaurant in Costa Mesa. I headlined for the third in the series on May 20, 2000, near the end of a tour that included a trip to the Netherlands and Italy (where I recorded the Due Acque concert.) If I remember correctly, Daniel Bremmer's roommate Dave Mosso recorded this concert onto mini-disk from the sound board.
This live recording originally became available as a download release on MP3.com, via Tony Gerber's Space for Music. After MP3.com changed their business model, I allowed Tony to make a CDR release for a few years; then I requested that he delete it from his catalog. At the time, I felt that I had too many live releases, with the 3-CD Humidity set and Calling Down the Sky. I didn't want Shamballa to clutter up my catalog, especially because it contained live versions of previously released compositions.
Now it seems appropriate to include Shamballa in the Live Archive collection, because some people have expressed their regret that it's only available in bootleg form. Offering it as an official version gives listeners a chance to obtain it legitimately if they desire.
