Leo Blanco is a Venezuelan pianist and composer. He was born in Merida, rich in culture and artistic currents, which influenced his musical upbringing. Venezuelan folklore, itself a mixture of African and Spanish musical traditions, as well as other musical languages, such as Jazz, Classical and pop, all found their way into Blanco's music. At the age of ten, he began his studies of classical piano and violin at the Conservatorio de Musica de la Universidad de Los Andes in Venezuela. At age eleven he became a member of the Mérida Youth Orchestra. At age 15 he was actively involved with musical presentations as both bass player and drummer for different bands where he experimented with Brazilian music and Spanish Rock. Later, Blanco attended Berklee College of Music, where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in music, with a concentration in composition and improvisation, and was exposed to new musical currents. He came in contact with Middle Eastern melodies, rhythmic patterns, and instrumentation, which he integrated into his already eclectic compositions.
