The Ancients
The Guitar is Ancient... both in it's actual physical form, very similar to that of today... and in it's origin of it's meaning and purpose of which few are aware. The very tuning of the guitar, with it's six strings... is really only five tones E,A,D,G,B, with another E as the additional outside string. These five actual tones... are in essence the notes of a pentatonic scale... coming into existence only as we tune the instrument from string to string at the fifth fret except for string two where we drop down a fret to tune it in standard tuning. This relationship stays in place up and down the entire neck at each fret position and at fret "Five" ~ notice 5 again... gives us the notes A, D, G, C, and E... or if rearranged the CAGED sequence of keys and chords so popularly employed today in our guitar's artistry.
