Blue Hymnal
Dave's music is a blend of powerful vocals, infectious grooves and blue gospel lyrics. The music is lighthearted but reflective. Dave's voice is clear yet bluesy. Each song was chosen or written in order to reinforce an assertion of Jesus: "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart - I have overcome the world." The album contains a wonderful blend of European hymns, African American folk anthems, and a few originals. Kid Andersen, Tad Lusk, and Matt Tutor - guitarists, Kaitlin McCarthy and Chris Carter - organists/keyboardists, Ted Partin - Bassist, Scott Trammell - drummer, and a dozen singers join Dave, who added additional drums, piano, Wurlitzer, Rhodes, and his voice to build a sound characteristic of accomplished musicians who have played and experienced a little bit of everything together. Dave wrote 2 new songs for Blue Hymnal, and arranged 7 others. Matt Tutor (Custom Music Works - Memphis, TN) arranged one of Dave's originals from 9 years prior (God, Make Something Beautiful) and also produced its recording session for the rhythm section in Memphis. Kid Andersen, Blues Music Award Winner and owner of Greaseland Studios (San Jose, CA), appears as lead guitarist on Glory Glory and This Little Light of Mine. Lisa Leuschner-Andersen (Kid's better half and American Idol finalist) appears on Glory Glory as well. John Macy, Grammy-Award winning engineer helped record Caught Up, while also adding his signature pedal steel sound to give that track something special. The recording, mixing, and mastering of Blue Hymnal took place between November 2015 and April 2016. It is the hope of More Than Music that Blue Hymnal would be the next product in a series of recordings that provide new and distinct music for Christian corporate worship gatherings.
