Like a Dream
Some people have the ability to capture your attention with a story and hold you on the edge of your seats. Some have the gift of captivating you in the rhythms and melodies of music. Every so often we come across a talent who can do both. Names like Billy Joel, Ben Folds, and Regina Spektor come to mind. Alex Davis has been capturing attention and captivating souls with his ability to tell a story with song since 2004. Now, the experience that has been limited to live audiences has been recorded in this new album entitled, “Like a Dream?” This is not just a selection of songs, but rather a collection of stories, put to the riveting piano that is unique to Alex. Come hear the tales of love, fear, hope and disappointments, let the human experience connect with your story, as the soft piano melodies hypnotize you and invite you in. This is
A note from Alex Davis:
This album has been a long time coming. In the summer of 2007, I bought some recording gear that functioned nicely as a start up home studio. I started working on my own music, and it did not take long to realize both my performance and recording skills needed some refinement. I was in my sophamore year working on my music composition degree, and began taking as many recording classes as my schedule would allow (and overloading it when it wouldn't allow). Finally, in my last semester at the University of South Carolina, I created, with the help of professor, employer and mentor, Jeff Francis, an independent study called Commercial Album Production. There was one goal: create a commercial album using my own original songs.
Recording began in January with long time friend, Mike Sanders coming down to Columbia, SC from Annapolis, MD to lay tracks. Over the months I spent more hours than I care to admit working in the studio, but I learned and synthesized more about recording than I have ever before.
It really has been a journey through the dark times, breaking my pinky 22 hours before the piano recording session, to the high times when I heard the first complete mix come together! By the end of September, the musical production was complete.
Through September and October, i got to collaborate with my old youth pastor and dear friend, Chuck Sellner, Creative Director of Visionary Comics Studio. Words can't describe the relief I had when I turned the album art over to his capable hands. After we got the initial art off the ground, he brought in Jacob Bascle, Production Chief of Visionary Comics, to master the text and final rendering. Both did absolutely phenomenal work and i could not be more pleased!
"Like a Dream" has certainly been the largest undertaking of my life so far. I have learned much from the whole project, and am very happy to finally have an album completed. I can never say enough how much I appreciate all the support my family and friends have given me all along the way. Thank you for your interest and i hope you enjoy, "Like a Dream."
