Sea in June
Ross combines the melodic and lyrical grace of Neil Finn with the sharpness, passion & fervour of Paul Weller. The songs on Sea in June range from the classic pop/rock of ‘Ride’, ‘Sunset Sunday’ & ‘Rosalina’, the infectious sing-a-long ‘Every Girl’ to the dense and haunting Church-like ‘Diamicron Baby’ and the more languid and quieter pieces like ‘Angels’, ‘Sea in June’ and ‘Song to Eva’ that delve into Nick Drake-style folk & jazz. All songs, having drawn on many styles and influences, feature Ross’s trademark lyricism and melodic gift and are destined to be classics.
Sea in June is up there with the likes of the Beatles ‘Revolver’, and the best of Crowded House and Paul Weller.
Ross comes from a staunchly working background and his music is utterly self-inspired, self-motivated, self-taught & self-funded. He did a music major within an arts degree and studied piano as a young adult, and currently specialises in acoustic guitar, bass & keyboards, having performed in numerous bands. Ross currently produces and records with songwriters around Sydney and is currently performing solo and with an Eva Cassidy concept duo.
Ross’s favourite aspect of music is live performance.
Ross’s main musical/songwriting influences are: Don Walker, Paul Weller, Eva Cassidy, Kate McGarrigle, Steve Kilbey, John Lennon etc etc.
Ross's other interests include earth issues, alternative media, nature, botany, cafes & parks, walking and health, good beer, and acoustic guitars ("mixing earth with music, perfect!"). Ross dislikes television, mass media, and populist sports.
