M & R

M & R

Brisbane indie soul songstress Bec Laughton is a tiny redhead with a giant voice, and has quite a knack for penning a killer pop hook.

With a brand new EP of material on the horizon, the young songstress has evolved into something utterly remarkable, taking all her RnB influences and vocal inspirations and releasing them over an ocean of thick beats and killer synths. A forward thinking artist who continues to release utterly enthralling music as well as demand a presence on stage that stops audiences dead in their tracks.

Bec was recently a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition and the Independent Music Awards, where she represented Brisbane town amongst a list of American finalists. With a Queensland Music Award also under her belt and a finalist position in four categories in the MusicOz Awards, there’s no question that Laughton can pen a tune. More recently, after playing shows in New York in January 2013, Laughton was asked to showcase the in the biggest emerging artist festival in the USA, South By Southwest.

After landing #1 on the triple j Roots Charts, getting CD of the week in Sydney Morning Herald and Indie Clip of the Week on Rage TV, word about Bec Laughton is bound to spread fast. She has played countless festivals, including main stage at Easterfest, Island Vibe, Woodford Folk Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival and Brisbane Festival, and is supporting some of the world’s greatest soul artists at Soulfest this year including D’Angelo, Maxwell, Angie Stone, Anthony Hamilton and Musiq Soulchild.

Laughton has recorded two EPs, At First Sight (2010) and By The Fire (2012) and is about to release her third which features ‘M&R’, the track responsible for her QMA Award win last year, set to be released in May this year.
