Combining a myriad of jazz, soul, reggae and afro beat, the lovely Yasmeen brings a game changing style to the stage every time; commanding it and mixing all of these genres into a sound all of her own. We call her a fusionist.
Yasmeen was born to the legendary Faisal Helwani, owner of Bibini Productions, a pioneer of music in Ghana and regarded in many circles as the first music producer in Ghana. Yasmeen takes after her father on the pioneering front, carving out her own niche in music with an alluring sound and equally seductive performance. Her styling is soulful and her words a breadth of expressions.
A song-writing maestro, Yasmeen pulls away from the rest of the field with carefully written songs drawn from a broad spectrum of experiences and most of all love and messages. Firmly planting herself at the tender of age of nine at the Ayekoo Tsooboi Concert at the Accra Sports Stadium, Yasmeen has never looked back. Her debut album, “My Sunshine” was released in 1997 followed by two other albums “Faith”, and “Memories”, which she wrote while studying in Canada.
Whether it is opening concerts for international artiste’s like Shaggy, or performing with superstars like Ghanaba, Yasmeen holds her own and is at home in almost every genre. In a recent collaboration with Richy Pitch, renowned Producer in the U.K., she once again proved the versatility that makes her such a rare gem and undoubtedly one of the best musicians that Ghana has uearthed. "Dey Suffer" the hit-single sung by Yasmeen on Pitch's acclaimed CD, "Ye Fre Mi" is currently in rotation on several radio stations here in Ghana and receiving world-wide attention.
This lovely songbird is currently preparing to release her 4th album, “Music Messenger” which promises to be a musical tale of her blossoming from child prodigy to mature songstress, recording and performing artist. The first single release, "Paddy", sung primarily in Ga, is due out in January 2011. Yasmeen is definitely one to watch on the musical scene with her original, soulful renditions and magical performances.
Yasmeen has a Bachelors Degree in Business Economics from the University of Saskatchewan in Canada and is a burgeoning entrepreneur. She owns and runs a cosmetics business, Madame Yasmeen which makes organic bath and beauty products and an organic home care line.
