The Antidote
Fog is a San Francisco based jazz quartet that has been working together for many years: both in the U.S. and Europe. This eclectic group is made up of Matt Renzi on tenor sax (played with Marc Johnson, Eberhart Weber, Eddie Marshall); guitarist Brad Buethe (Jack MacDuff, Jaki Byard, Joe Lovano); bassist Peter Barshay (Freddie Hubbard, Sonny Stitt, Woody Shaw, Joe Henderson); and Brian Melvin on drums (Jaco Pastorious, Mike Stern, Michael Brecker, Bob Weir). They are all veterans of the New York jazz scene.
Fog has mastered the art of intimate musical conversation. They blend a deeply rooted feeling for jazz with influences from other musical styles: the blues, funk, gospel, reggae, and rock. Their soundscapes can take on a dream-like quality as well as an intense, hard-driving feel.
Using jazz as a skeletal format, Fog blends songs from many genres and composers (Wayne Shorter, James Taylor, Bob Marley, Peter Gabriel, Brian Wilson). They also mix in their original compositions. This gives their music a fresh and unique sound.
