North Meets South

North Meets South

Featuring original compositions and creative versions of some well known Brazilian pieces, these 2 musical innovators push the boundaries of rock and jazz deep into Brazil and push the wonderful rhythms and harmonies of Brazil deep into the American musical consciousness. First working together during Tracy's tenure as first violinist with the Turtle Island String Quartet in 1995, he and Caito formed a fast friendship. Caito invited Tracy to Brazil for some duo concerts together, they recorded this CD in 2001 and have been touring together ever since. Caito, who has worked with such celebrated Brazilian artists as Airto and Hermeto Pascoal, has made a name for himself as a composer as well as a percussionist and has collaborated with many of Brazil's best loved artists. Tracy's musical curiosity has led him to work with a who's who of contemporary classical, jazz and rock artists throughout the world. Here they enjoy their shared love of each others' musical culture, bringing rock and jazz to Brazilian classics such as Villa-Lobos's "O Trenzinho do Caipira" and Dorival Caymmi's "Cancao da Partida" and Brazilian grooves to Silverman's original compositions, "Are You Sleeping" and "Olive Branch". A refreshing and very listenable adventure in musical friendship.
