Thomas Fetherstonhaugh

Born 1998, Thomas Fetherstonhaugh was a chorister at Westminster Abbey from the age of 8 to 13. He was a frequent soloist in concerts, recordings and broadcasts for BBC TV and Radio. At the Royal Wedding he performed the solo in Ubi Caritas by Paul Mealor. He was a soloist in Mahler’s Das klagende Lied in the 2011 BBC Proms, conductor Edward Gardner. He sang in Puccini’s Il Trittico (cond. Antonio Pappano) at The Royal Opera House. Tosca (cond. Stephen Lord), Billy Budd and Magic Flute (cond. Nicholas Collon) at ENO. In 2013 Thomas composed a Christmas Carol for the Financial Times which was published in the FT’s Christmas Supplement and broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM. At the Junior Royal Academy of Music, Thomas studied violin with Chika Robertson and conducting with Howard Williams and Anthony Weeden between 2011-2016. He went to Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School, where he studied piano with Martin Cousin and organ with Iestyn Evans. He holds a DipABRSM with distinction in violin. Thomas has taken part in violin masterclasses with Daniel Hope and Nicola Benedetti. A keen chamber musician, he has won scholarships to MusicWorks and Pro Corda. In January 2016 Thomas formed the Fantasia Orchestra, a group of young players from Junior and Senior Conservatoires. They will perform their third concert together in December, featuring Sheku Kanneh-Mason, BBC Young Musician 2016. He is now studying Music at Merton, College, Oxford, where he is Junior Organ Scholar. He would like to be a conductor.
