Have yourself a listen to this ear catching new single from Norway’s 17 year old popstar Astrid – 2 am. You MAY recognise Astrid as being Astrid Smeplass – participant of Norwegian Idol a few years back. This is her first single as Astrid, and the first release from her since she signed with Universal. She’s stepped away (for now?) from the country music influences that shone through on her debut ‘Shattered’. And ‘2am’ is instead a much much cooler and down-tempo jam – that actually doesn’t really qualify as any genre. It’s unclassifiable. It transcends the stifling boxes and labels that are the range of genres. It does its own thing. Yeah. We always find this element of a former Idol SLASH X Factor contestant’s pop career the most interesting. When they sign with a new label AFTER they’re done with the whole post-Idol thing. You get to hear what they’re all about for arguably the first time. And so the next six months or so are gonna be quite interesting times to keep an ear on Astrid
